In Japanese, we say ‘time flows’. When I was 18 years old, I wondered and wanted to see how it flows. That is how I started Ryusuimon. When I think of water and time, here is the reason why I think those are related. Time means the changes and transformations of materials on the earth, and if water plays important role to the activities, I thought the way water flows resembles to that of time’s. I came up with the idea when I was 40 years old, and since then, I kept visiting rivers over 20 years.
My friends wonder why I can keep doing it for such a long time, and ask what attracts me so much. Yet, it is interesting for me. It would never be the same. Every single time, it is different. If not, it is not a reflection of time.
Time always varies. It varies from moment to moment. The reason for the variation is water, therefore, water varies accordingly. That attracts me a lot. The variations help things to grow.
“Great Awakening”
Atmosphere shifts and becomes wind.
Wind calls for clouds and create water.
Water flows and becomes time.
Time goes by, and creates beauty.
Beauty brings shimmers to life,
And it awakes one’s inner light.
If you are more conscious about water and time in your life, you can lead a leisurely life. It is also important to put your work and everyday life in order.

Water and diamond.
Water and diamond are very different materials. However, they bear an interesting relevancy.
As I have written in this blog a while ago, water can penetrate inside of objects, and change and transform them into different things. On the other hand, the only object which does not include water inside is diamond.
High density of the diamond crystal is the main reason for the hardness. I see an interesting contrast in the two. Diamond symbolizes “eternity” while it does not allow water to penetrate, and water symbolizes “moment” which lies in the opposite state of the time compared to the diamond.
My profession is to cut diamonds. When finished cutting, I put a diamond into a boiling hydrochloric acid in order to wash oil around it. Even then, the diamond is not affected by the acid at all.
Water gives and maintains lives of all creatures, and its main component is carbon, which is the same to diamond.
Therefore, carbon is the radical nature of all the lives. Also, the living activities of all the creatures can be done only in the water at the molecular level. Both elements make a balance to support a life at the very end to each other.
This natural world is full of wonders. Everything is related and connected.
Water does its truth. Are human beings doing their truth? What is their truth to start with?
A diamond in the rough.

Everything is in water
When we usually look at objects, such as woods, rocks, plants, winds, and earth, we do not pay attention to the water within them.
Yet, they contain water for sure. For that reason, they can keep their shapes.
If they are dehydrated using high-speed centrifugal machine, a rock becomes sand.
Every single object on the earth is submerged in the water.
When the water inside changed, the object is transformed into a different thing accordingly. For example, it cracks, sprits up, dies, decays, or breaks due to the water within.
In Buddhism teaching, the concept or condition that all the objects is constantly changing is called Mujo, or impermanence. The everlasting change, I think, is the flux of time itself.
Flux of time comes with the change of water. Therefore, this earth is constantly changing without resting even for a moment. When the water ceases changing and transforming, then, the time stops. That means a death. The water never stays the same even for a moment.
